So you want to get started in Tech? Why would someone pursue an apprenticeship?

Many people choose to pursue an apprenticeship because they want to grow their career, acquire new skills and knowledge, or improve their quality of life. Apprenticeships can open up a whole world of opportunities for students and young professionals who want a chance at more rewarding careers while developing the work ethic needed to endure higher levels of responsibility.

Tech apprenticeships allow recent graduates with little or no industry experience the opportunity to learn what it takes to succeed in the tech industry without spending years in school.

The following list of companies offer Tech Apprenticeships:

1.Accenture and Aon Apprentice program

It combines classroom and on-the-job learning in corporate IT and technology. It is typically a 12month program working as a business analyst on an agile scrum team

2. Airbnb Connect Software Engineering Apprenticeship

This coding apprenticeship is an entry point to combine a love for tech and the travel industry. This is a 6 month program in San Francisco Bay Area that includes coding courses, mentors and team placement. Non CS majors only and less than 1 year tech experience.

3. Google Tech Apprenticeship

This program covers data analytics to information technology. It runs for 12 or 20 months ad graduates can earn a certificate from Google. Candidates cannot hold a bachelors degrees inter apprenticeship field, they may hold it in another discipline.

4. IBM Apprentice Program

This program can cover app development, system programming and system administration. Apprentices received >300 hours of remote training, inclining intro to computer science. Tis 12 month program has exit opportunities in IBM and else where.

5. LinkedIn Engineering Apprenticeship program

This coding apprenticeship including programming and engineering courses couples with mentoring and on-the-job training. You can move through 3 levels before qualifying for a permanent role within LinkedIn software engineering team. It can least from 1-5 years. Ideal applications are non CS majors, bootcamps graduates, or self taught coders. It is an excellent option for career switching or after an absence of work to get back into industry. Common positions include site reliability engineer, back-end engineer and AI engineer.

6. Microsoft Leap Apprenticeship program

This is for nontraditional aspiring tech professionals. There is a combination of formal classroom and on-the-job training to work in Xbox, Office365 and Bing. It runs for 16 weeks and can gain entry to positions within Microsoft like business program manager, data analyst and software engineer. Most candidates should have 6 months software development or project management experience and completed a coding bootcamp.

7. Pinterest Tech Apprenticeship

This is a coding apprenticeship that lasts for approx 1 year. You are paired with a manager and mentor and receive technical training and opportunity to be part of team projects, mostly on organizations growth or product engineering. This can be an entry point for positions within Pinterest or great exit opportunities. Candidates should have one programming language proficiency and some knowledge on software architecture and coding. They will have some experience through a bootcamp or self taught coding or Non-CS major.
